Week 2

Hello all! So I just wanted to update a little bit on what we learned in Fashion Illustration last week :)

The first week we had worked mostly on upper torsos but the second week we started working on the lower half. We practiced it face on and then working with adding some movement by angling it and trying different positions with the legs. This is what that turned out looking like:

Then we started putting the two together and seeing what they looked like when put together:

Basically I've learned you just need to keep practicing and become more comfortable with the shapes you're making. It's ok to make mistakes.  I'm also excited to see what kind of pose I can come up with for the croquis for our final project (you get to design the pose yourself). Don't forget! Proportion is key!! :)

Week 1

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog. My plan for this blog is to post about what I've done and learned in my Fashion Illustration class. It will be a great way for me to follow my own progress. I hope you enjoy seeing what I'm up to in this class!

The first day of drawing was pretty basic (which is really good because I am not an artist at all). We started with making a figure map which is evenly spaced horizontal lines to help you keep your figure in proportion (proportion is KEY!). Then we drew a very symmetrical, rigid person with very straight lines on tracing paper using the figure map as a guide (also called a static figure because it's just straight on, no movement or anything.) And finally, we traced again over that very rigid person to soften the lines and make the curves a normal body would have. So here is my first attempt at that:

I thought it came out ok for never really drawing before :)

And lastly, we moved from a static pose to working on more of a fashion pose. That is going to be with bends at the waist and the torso slightly turned.

So this is what we worked on just in the first class period. Looking forward to seeing what we do next!
