Challenge #1

Hello all! I have decided in this post to not only update you on what we have been learning in my illustration class but also offer up a challenge for you yourselves to try out :)

So here is what we have been up to!

Last week we focused on faces. I found this part both challenging and a lot of fun. I actually enjoyed learning how to properly draw faces. We discussed the proper proportions for the face and all the correct locations for things. This was all aided by creating a grid map similar to what we use to do the full body croquis'. So this is how mine turned out:

We started with straight on

And then we did 3/4

I was pretty pleased with these since I truly am not an artist haha.

And now I offer YOU a challenge! To draw a face!

This is an example of the grid you should use as your base. Make 7 horizontal lines 1 inch apart, also put a straight line down the middle with 2 inches on either side. The 2 inches is how big your boxes should be. Label them 0-6. And now you have your base! Eyes go in the middle at like 3, mouth about at line 5, nose is in between. The hairline is around line 1 or a little below.

I hope you give this a try yourself! Till next time :)
